Why do parents want to deny their children life-saving medical treatments on basis of religion?
For a school assignment, I have been reading case after case of parents who claim that their freedom of religion is violated by the state interferring with their decision to deny their child life-saving medical treatment (usually blood transfusion).

In one case, I read of a father stating how his 13 year old daughter was so terrified because she was continuously being told that if she took the blood transfusion, she would go to hell.

I keep reading these cases and keep becoming angry with these parents who think they have a right to literally let their child because of religious dogma that they believe. The child has not been able to form an opinion on religion as they have as adults.

What happens to these children once they have received the forbidden medical treatment? Are they shunned from their families/communities? Or do they spend the rest of their lives repenting?

And do these adults not believe in "age of innocence" where a child especially a baby is not religiously responsible i.e. let a premature baby have the transfusion. If they baby died even after the transfusion, the all-loving god would surely not send a premature baby to hell…would he?
Here are at least 50 cases, in Canada, regarding Jehovah’s Witnesses and blood transfusions for children.
http://www.canlii.org/eliisa/search.do?l anguage=en&searchTitle=Search+all+Ca nLII+Databases&sortOrder=relevance&a mp;searchPage=eliisa%2FmainPageSearch.vm &text=%22jehovah%27s+witness%22%2C+b lood+transfusion%2C+child&id=&st artDate=&endDate=&caselaw=courts
I tell you whut!:
That quote is from a court transcript.
I was actually not aware of that so I did google it.
While it may be true that they dont believe in the hellfire version etc. it still doesnt take away the possibility of using it as a fear tactic on a child.
Alissa: I know it appears as if I am picking on them but question did start off generally; its just that the mass majority of such cases before the courts were of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
I am aware of such instances in other belief systems.

As for "don’t you think it would be better to die then to disobey God?":
The issue with that is that you can believe that as an adult but a baby has not been able to make a deterimination to that effect.
That child has to be given the chance to grow up and make their own decision and if as an adult they want to refuse, it is their legal right.
But parents cannot and should not let their child die because of what they believe.

This is one of the reasons why someone needs to be an intermediary and step in. If a parent is teaching a child their religious traditions, and those teachings endanger the life of the child, then it’s the same as a parent teaching a child a suicide technique, and child protection services need to get involved.

Because religious dogma results in bad things happening, especially for children of parents who are brainwashed by organized religion.

Yea, it’s sad that JW’s do that. As for the age of innocence…well that’s another subject.

You say ‘I read of a father stating how his 13 year old daughter was so terrified because she was continuously being told that if she took the blood transfusion, she would go to hell.’

Someone has got confused. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in Hell as a place of eternal torment, so it just goes to show you can’t believe everything you read doesn’t it?
I tell you whut! | Jan 22, 2010

That really is disturbing. People get so caught up in speculation around what happens when we die, they sacrifice their own lives and well-being and that of their loved ones in pursuit of a dream.
Father Tucker | Jan 22, 2010

First of all, I believe that God often heals people through doctors.

Jehovah’s witnesses are particularly against blood transfusions. As far as I know they’re fine with other medical treatments, so just be happy for that. IF God really would be unhappy with you if you got blood transfusions and IF it really is a sin… don’t you think it would be better to die then to disobey God? This life is just a small part of our existence, and what we do here largely effects the rest of our existence… so wouldn’t it just be better to obey God and die but live forever with God?

I think you shouldn’t just pick on Jehovah’s Witnesses, theres other churches that are against medical treatment. Some are against all medicall treatment. I’ve seen a couple cases on the news both about the same small church (Followers of Christ Church) in Oregon. They’ve had a baby and a teenager die from treatable illnesses because of "faith healing". http://oregoncity.katu.com/content/faith -healing-trial-testimony-about-ava-worth ington-will-stay

Because peoples faiths are more important than the lives of their children.
Belief can be a dangerous thing depending on those beliefs.
dangerous beliefs like the fact that known child molesters and rapists are given second chances in society based on the belief that people can change in the christian judeo society we live in.
i firmly believe that if a parent or parents indoctrinate their children, brainwash their children into a certain belief system whether by force, fear or habit, it’s all wrong and akin to molestation.
A child should have the right to chose their own spiritual path or religion and should have the right to live through medical intervention despite their parents religious beliefs.
The child never asked to be born, nor did they ask their parents to choose whether they live or die based on those parents religious dogma.
it is infurating to me just as circumcision,( male or female), ear piercing when still a baby and baptism.
the religious path is a person decision that should be up to the individual when they are of an age wherein they can be aware of the concepts of religion.
Otherwise, parents are (in a perfect world), the ones to protect the lives of their children, not to determine whether they die based on idiotic dogma.

As someone else already pointed out, but a point that bears repeating…Jehovah’s Witnesses DO NOT believe in hell. We DO NOT threaten people with hell. So, I don’t know who you’re talking about, but it WAS NOT a Jehovah’s Witness family. You should probably check you’re so called facts.

Now, ask yourself how many children are being poisoned hourly by parents who smoke. Do you know how many of those kids develop cancer, asthma, and many other life threatening illnesses? I can tell you it’s more than 50. Now, here’s a fact about Jehovah’s Witnesses. We do NOT smoke.

Now, do you know how many people get sick and die each year due to infections from blood transfusions? 60,000 worldwide. Do you know how many get lingering sicknesses such as HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis, and many other blood born pathogens.

We abstain from blood because God commands us to. Acts 15:28,

Name this space comedy movie please please please?
Please help me to find out which movie this is.
There were these regular ordinary guys that the government is training to send into outer space. It’s so funny. The guys are like truckers or something. One of them is going to marry one of the senior members daughters and they can’t stand each other.
Some of the actors seemed popular but I can’t recall any of their names.
I have looked everywhere and I can’t come up with anything. It isn’t rocketman.
I searched for spacecowboys that is and found it. So still thanks to your answer

ive got old camcorder tapes, does anybody know how to put them on to a disc?
so i can watch them on my dvd player,or is there somewere i can send them to be put on discs,i live in uk ,,,any ideas cheers emma xxxxx

You do not say if you still have the camcorder! Depending on, If the camcorder is digitla or not, you say its old then I will assume its not digital, you can get a device that you plug int your computer and camcorder, its called a analoge to digital video converter, radio Shack have them for around $50 ish. that would be the cheapest way to do it if you have more than say five or six tapes to do,
Something like this

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index. jsp?productId=3572924

Pinnacle also make them a little more expensive.

If you do not have that many then maybe your best way would be to get someone to do it for you,

there are many companies that do it they can put them on dvd for you, or they can put the video onto an external drive, which will allow you to edit them yourself.

to find the closest one to you do a search for "video conversion services" then add your town/city,

OOps just noticed you are from the UK the same thing applies, but you could also try PCworld, Tandys,

Installed Video Card?
I installed an older ATI 9800xt. Everything went without a hitch, and the card was instantly recognized by XP. And I stared playing COD 2 to test it out and it was fine (for the expectations of the card) But I now I hear you have to disable the on board video first.
Do I still have to do that? or has it already been diabled..

Is there any other "rule of thumb" when connecting a video card that I should know.

The inboard video card should automatically disable itself, like mine did.

What can I do to make this better?
Chris found himself on a battlefield, it was strangely familiar, with blood and gore everywhere. Soldiers lay groaning in agony, the dead and dying bleeding the ground red. His own clothes were soaked, and the sword in his hand dripped dark crimson. The stink of death surrounded and filled him. Darkness had fallen, and the growing fog made the night still darker, drawing cold luminous circles around the twin moons making them look like two ghoulish eyes staring down at him in the dark.
It promised to be a stormy night, and lightning flashed in the distance. His eyes plunged into the black seeking out the hunters that came for him. The lightning lit up the sky again in bluish white glory, and then he saw them. Their voices rang out clear and strong in a savage howl. Chris didn

Around the world in 80 days - Is it possible SKIP a day?
I just reread "Around the World in 80 days", and i had a funny thought.

Using present day technologies, say, riding on a Boeing 747.
If we travel from East to West. Circling the globe back to the point of origin.
Can we skip a day?

Let’s say we start at 2010-Jan-1 sunset in Hawaii, and travel westward circling the globe.
And we return the Hawaii on 2010-Jan-3 sunrise. Thus skipping a day, not seeing the sunrise and sunset of 2010-Jan-2.

Just a strange thought, wonder if its possible? :P

no it is not possible. the boeing does not travel fast enough. its max speed is about 750 miles per hour. you would see the sunrise of jan 2 somewhere over asia and the sunset over the atlantic. however if you left at sunrise on the jan 1 you would miss sunrise of the 2nd by crossing the international dateline mid pacific but you would still see sunset of the 2nd.

Should I be a Vampire or El Zorro for Halloween?
I already have the things for both of them. Don’t need to buy anything other than a 2 dollar kit for vampire but it’s no big deal.

This is how my face would look (I did it for school already and I would need to put make up again, so this is me) for a vampire. But for zorro I don’t have a picture but I would just have a cape just like vampire, the hat (already have) and that mask (I have).

Do you think that it is fair that domestic and foreign man will stay away from 80 percent or more of American?
Do you think that it is fair that domestic and foreign man will stay away from 80 percent or more of American women and will never have sex date and marry them?

Only marry foreign women.

"Now you understand why US men prefer foreign born women: THEY TREAT US BETTER, RESPECT US, APPRECIATE THAT AFFECTION WE SHOW THEM, AND ACKNOWLEDGE OUR EFFORTS TO PROVIDE A BETTER LIFE."

A huge percentage of American women are selfish, flighty, insecure, needy and psychotic, and quite capable of concealing those traits during the dating phase

White ‘career’ American chicks are the bottom of the barrel marriage-wise.

Foreign women from South America, Eastern Europe, and Asia are at the top. Only guys who travel (in other words, guys who are successful and ambitious enough to travel a lot) find these. But they never, ever go back.

Foreign-born women living in the US are the next best. They get married early…they are highly sought-after by American guys for their wifely skills (hell, any women who has ANY ability to be a wife is better than your average American chick, who knows NOTHING about being a wife)

Bottom of the barrel—white American chicks. Yecch.

Here’s a story: I knew a guy who was Hungarian (parents emigrated) who tried for 15 years to find a half-decent women to marry. He’s a doctor, by the way. Finally after 8 psycho-weirdo US chicks, he went back to the ‘old country’ to find a wife. The people there were lining the women up for him to meet…he’s a rich American guy…they are considered the best husbands in the world.

He found this lovely wife. She is a total gem, and he’s happy as hell. 2 kids. Happily ever after.

I will go one step further and differentiate between Western women vs. non-Western women. This is not just an American phenomenon, most women in Western countries have that cold, bitchy, superficial, stuck up attitude. A lot of Western women hold themselves as the pure center of the relationship. If the men don’t fit a rigid and unrealistic criteria or she doesn’t feel the man can take care of her enough (even if she has a higher paying job) then she will drop him like a hot potato, regardless of his character or commitment to the relationship.

Popular Myth: Western men looking for foreign wives are only seeking subservient slaves.

Truth: Most Western men today are evolved and modern and truly believe in the 50/50 system. Most Western men are dismayed by the lack of sincerity of Western women. I can do my own laundry and cooking thank you!

Yes, Latin American and Eastern European women do make better mates because both come from more conservative and family oriented cultures where relationships and commitment are actually revered.

I was absolutely blown away by the quality of women on my trip to eastern Europe. Classy, cultured, traditional values, how could you ask for more?

One year with my Japanese girlfriend

So far…
-No fights.
-Great sex every night.
-She cooks a delicious meal every night (unless I take her out).
-No guilt trips for going out with the guys.
-Thin and absolutely beautiful.

Think I’ve finally found myself a keeper. One thing’s for sure; I’ll never go date an American girl again.

Latin American women seem to make decent wives. My friend married a hot girl from Venezuela. Sweet, beautiful, cooks, cleans, and is the perfect wife. Like how American women were in the 1950s America.

As I said, it’s a competitive marketplace. We’re not looking to marry other men. The real world is not about what is fair, but what you can get.

American men have options. American women do not. So the American women huff and puff, and scowl at the incoming foreign brides who don’t demand the feminazi equality bullshit. You WISH American men didn’t have choices. You’re like a labor union that’s pissed off because the company is hiring non-union employees.

Honestly I wish I could have found an American wife with all the qualities of my foreign wife. I could not, because they do not exist. Here is a partial list of her loveliness

1: Sensible and good with money.
2: Genuine commitment.
3: Very family oriented.
4: She enjoys housework.
5: Hard working.
6: She does not have to diet to look great

Foreign women are comfortable in their femininity. As a male I am attracted to this. And I love her with all my heart.

I believe that American women have priced themselves out of the marketplace. Too needy, too many headgames, too easy to divorce.

Not many foreign men want American wives either.

American women..
- highest maintenance (I’ve never heard of a foreign bride demanding her husband buy expensive house & cars)
- fattest in the world
- most likely to cheat
- highest rate of divorce (60% - US-US marriages; 20% - US-foreign marriages)
- largest payout in divorce court (you’ll be ass-raped for everything you earned, plus most of what you will earn for years to come)
- bitchiest
- most likely to nag constantly
- mo
