Christian religious pressure from family…How do I cope?
My dad has helped me out quite a bit financially when I really needed help. I’m a single mom raising two kids with no financial support.
My dad keeps telling me "prey to the lord Jesus and all of your problems will go away." I really hate when he says that!
Also, he told me that I would never be able to quit smoking unless I accepted Jesus. I proved him a liar because I quit smoking and I consider myself agnostic/atheist.
Now, he’s insisting I go to church and pay 10% of all the money he’s given me towards tithes or else he will never help me out again. ( I told him I’ll go, but I really cant afford to pay the 10% and I don’t want to start becoming a liar which is one of the things I’ve always made me proud of myself was my honesty.)
I don’t want to start lying, but by the same token the battery in my car needs to be replaced, I cant pay my phone bill or my utilities. What do I do? I’m starting to hate him more and more every day because of the religious pressure he’s putting on me.
Tell them to conform to your beliefs.

You are a mom raising two kids with no financial support, except for what your father gives you, and which he asks of you to donate to a Church (which is his money anyway), your dad asks you to PREY to the Lord, yet you are a level 4 on Y!A.

Have you tried explaining that you can’t afford that?
By the sounds of it your father knows you’re not a Christian, you could flat out tell him this isn’t really encouraging you to become a Christian but instead just making you feel pressured into doing something you don’t believe in and straining your relationship. That might be another option….but I don’t know, you have to do what you’re comfortable with.
